These foods have become a huge part of my everyday diet.
Water
Many people overlook water as a powerful detoxifying agent; but it is one of the best things you can put into your body. Water is vital to all of your organ processes and aids in multiple ways to help your body flush out toxins.
If you have not been drinking much water, do not suddenly flood your body with it, as your kidneys may become overwhelmed. Increase your water intake one cup per day until you have reached an optimal amount (3-5L per day depending on body size). You should drink your first glass of water first thing in the morning.
Green Tea
Substitute green tea for juice (high in sugar content), soft drinks, and other herbal teas in order to up your intake of this valuable nutritional aid. Green tea is high in antioxidants, which seek out and destroy free radicals before these harmful molecules can damage cells. There’s numerous other reasons to make green tea a part of your everyday diet, too.
Kale
Whether included in a shake or eaten in a salad, kale is a valuable addition to your diet. It helps cleanse the kidneys, a valuable aid in the body’s detoxification process. Kale is packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and also has an anti-inflammatory effect, so what’s not to love? Eat it up. Struggling for recipe ideas? Why not try this fantastic Kale Salad with Blueberries and Pumpkin Seeds?
Lemons
For a refreshing, delicious way to add effectiveness to your detox efforts, simply add fresh lemon juice to your diet. It makes foods taste great when squeezed over them, but the easiest way to add plenty of lemon to your diet is to add it to water and drink it. Lemon also helps your body’s digestion.
Olive Oil
This should be your go-to oil in most of your cooking (at higher temperatures, such as for stir-frying, substitute sesame oil, which has anti-inflammatory properties and tastes great). Olive oil has numerous healthy properties and plays an important role in helping your liver to detox (and can even help prevent the build-up of gallstones). Choose organic, extra-virgin olive oil. It is a healthy fat and its rich, fruity flavour blends well with most foods.
Asparagus
This tasty vegetable helps the liver to drain and more efficiently filter out bodily toxins. Asparagus also serves as an anti-aging food that can fight heart disease and inflammation. Serve it lightly steamed, sprinkled with lemon juice and olive oil and topped with another super food; chopped or minced garlic.
